i know it's a waste of airtime to condemn 'streaming' -- this far into the game i am pretty sure we all get exactly what's bad about it and exactly why we do it anyway. but i will say one bad habit i've gained wiling away the hours on YouTube or Spotify is that i forget to listen to an album, opening to ending, no skipping, no shuffling, no divided attention. so this week i listened to Fiona Apple's discography, full on, chronological, Tidal to Fetch The Bolt Cutters. easy to do with an artist of her caliber, as i was never once moved to fast-forward, never wanted to leave the song i was inside. this is NOT a Fiona Apple review (that's why we keep Pitchfork around) but rather a note to self. listen to more albums and don't skip; makes music sound better & makes it mean more. :-)
